The Vine

August 2008

From Our President...

Hello, Everyone!

Hope all of you are enjoying the summer which by the way is almost over. This Fall will bring many opportunities for painting and new shows.

As you may have heard we will be partnering with Norcross Arts Alliance and adding another venue to Kudzu’s galleries. The first theme of this show is “Streets of Norcross.” So please keep an eye out on the website for more info or contact Sandy Lacy or myself.

We have many new members and I want to take this time to welcome each and every one of you to Kudzu. I am looking forward to seeing you all at future Kudzu Events.

I also would like to take this time to thank the many volunteers who are making a tremendous impact at Kudzu as well as the new volunteers who have just recently become part of our growing committees. We all know the strength of Kudzu and that being the members and the volunteers who work so hard to “get the job done.”

Look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.

Gallery Notes

Feel the Heat - July 11 through August 23

CONGRATULATIONS to the ribbon winners in the current show: Mikki Dillon, Susan Faircloth, Cyndi Marble, Christopher Sherry, Diana Dice and Pat Herrington.

The judge, Chery Baird, was very impressed with the KAZ space and quality of work submitted. Over 50 people attended the opening and more than 1/3 were non-members. Those guests came as a result of local and regional advertisement and invitation.

If your work is included in the current show, PLEASE contact Katrina Stone to volunteer your time gallery sitting during the Friday or Saturday open hours.

LEAPS n BOUNDS - The next exhibition.

Like our Southern perennial vine namesake, Kudzu Art Zone grows by leaps and bounds. This exhibit will celebrate and acknowledge this process of “where we are and where we are going” as artists. Entries can be delivered to the gallery Saturday, August 23, 11-3:45 am, or at the Monday meeting, August 25, 6-6:45 pm. The opening is scheduled for Friday, September 5, 7-9 pm.

EIGHT BY TEN - Deliver entries Oct. 25 or Oct. 27.

Opening will be Friday November 7. Image size for the 2-D entries must be 8" x 10"; 3-D entries should fit into an 8" x 10" box. At this time, the usual 3 entries can be submitted, but this is subject to change.

2009 Gallery Schedule

If you have suggestions for show titles for the next exhibit year, please email me. The gallery calendar is now being discussed and organized.

Work for Paizano's Restaurant will be received at the next regular KAZ meeting, August 25.

  • Please let me know the names of any experienced exhibition judges, as I would like to continue building a list. KAZ does pay the judges a stipend.

Next Member Meeting...

Renowned pastel artist Elsie Dresch will present at the upcoming monthly meeting at Kudzu Art Zone, Monday, August 25 at 7 pm. This is an exciting opportunity to learn from an incredibly talented artist. Her topic will be Composition. Elsie is a great teacher; trust me, you won’t want to miss her presentation.

In addition to being represented by several prominent galleries, Elsie has received over 60 awards in regional and national shows. Her work is in many private and corporate collections in the United States, Canada and Italy.

This would also be a great time to buy her new book, Create Better Paintings, since she can personally autograph it for you that evening. Hope to you see you there!

New at KAZ...

Welcome to Elsie Porter - the New Events Chair

Elsie has been an artist in the Atlanta area for more than 10 years. Her work is on display (and selling!) in several restaurants, organizations and companies throughout the city and is part of private collections from New York to London. Also a member and former volunteer for the Atlanta Artists Center, she is new to Norcross and excited about the opportunity to work with Kudzu. She will be forming a new Events Team and asks that anyone interested in finding out more and or playing a part on that team should contact her.
